The Problem Solver: How to Get from A to Z
Here is a very simple coaching exercise to help you move forward when you are stuck on any sort of problem.
1. On a blank page, draw a chart with 3 columns.
2. Label column one as "A", column two as "Z" and column three as "B".
3. In column A, answer the question "What's bothering me?
4. In column Z write "Where do I ideally want to be in relation to this issue?"
5. In column B, brainstorm, "What is the next step I can take to move from A to Z?"
That's it. Just work out the very first step you need to take and then take it! When you have accomplished that, you can do the exercise again for the next step you need to take in order to bridge the gap from where you are to where you want to be.

The Power of Fear
It has been three days since I first heard the word "Swine Flu". People are ill all over the world and some have died. Today it was confirmed that one Israeli has the disease and is being treated in a Netanya hospital. One other man, here in my town of Kfar Saba, is now in the hospital being tested. Both men were in Mexico last week on business. Thanks to G-d they are both expected to survive.
As I listened to the reports of this illness spreading so quickly around the globe, I quickly became fearful for myself and my children. Then I remembered something I read once in the excellent newsletter of Ana Brett and Ravi Singh. Ana and Ravi teach Kundalini Yoga, a very special and spiritual form of yoga. I highly recommend their DVD's, informative newsletter and website http://www.raviana.com/.
On to the story:
A Yogi was sitting under a tree near a road. Thousands of people were traveling on the road to a celebration at a religious shrine in a town a few miles away. The yogi noticed someone who his intuition told him was not quite human.
"Excuse me" he said "Who are you? What is your story?"
"I'm Cholera" the gnarled man said "and I'm on a mission. I've been ordered to proceed to this town and claim 50 lives."
"I understand that tragedies are a part of life" the yogi replied "but is there anything I can do to prevent this?"
Cholera just shrugged, said "Take it up with the Boss" and kept walking towards the town.
A month later the Yogi was helping to burn bodies in the town where a cholera epidemic had recently claimed 200 lives. Suddenly he saw Cholera himself!
"Hey!" the yogi called out. "You told me that 50 people were supposed to die, but it turned out to be 200! Maybe you are enjoying your work a little too much?"
Cholera sadly replied "Actually, because of your prayers, meditation and efforts to educate people about proper sanitation, the number went down to 10. Everyone else succumbed to their own fears."
May we all move forward on this day, Yom HaZikaron 5769 (Memorial Day 2009), with Faith and Strength. With Prayer, Meditation and Education we can win out over Fear.

My Top Ten Tips for Permanent Weight Loss and Health
1. Get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. Yes, this is really THE most important tip!
2. Allow yourself to experience the feeling of hunger before you eat anything. Ideally this will happen 3 times a day, before each meal.
3. Eat High Nutrient Density Foods 90% of the time: Fresh Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts & Seeds give you the biggest nutrition bang for the calorie buck.
4. Only 10% of daily calories max should come from low-nutrition foods. That's 150-200 calories to play with. (Thanks Tom for fixing my math!!) A cup of coffee with sugar and milk. A cookie. Savor it and don't overdo.
5. Eat at least 40 grams of fiber a day. More is better. You can log your food for free into http://www.fitday.com/ to see how much fiber you are currently consuming. You should be moving your bowels easily at least once a day my friends!
6. Deal with the behaviors, thoughts and habits which cause overeating and keep you overweight. (Having a Health Coach for this can be INVALUABLE!!)
7. Daily vigorous exercise. Raise your heart rate. Get sweaty. Build some sexy muscles.
8. Balance your Primary Foods: Rewarding Relationships, LOVE, a Satisfying Career, a Refreshing Spiritual Practice, Physical Fitness, Secure Financial Life...
9. Eat Real Food, not packaged processed franken-food. If there are ingredients you cannot pronoun or recognize, your body can't either.
10. Practice daily Mental Training to harness and utilize the power of your mind and your thoughts. (Health Coaches are good for this too!)
